The 2017 local Track and Field programme came to a grand finale recently, with Ardee A.C. hosting their ever popular Sports Day on Sunday last.
In the girls events Lauren Faulkner made her race debut in the u8 60m, finishing in a fine 2nd place, while Chloe Cooney and Shruti Sprasad finished 2nd & 3rd respectively in the u9 sprint. Sholah Lawrence won the u10 race with ease, as did Saran Meite and Lily Cummins in the u13 & u14 100m races. Lauren was back for more with a silver in the 200m race, while Chloe took gold in her 200m, with Shruti just behind in 2nd place. Shola made it a double with another win in the 200m, while Eimear Cooney had a great run to finish 2nd in the u11 girls 600m. Saran once again took the top spot, this time in the u13 600m, with clubmate Eabha Cosgrove just behind in 2nd place, while in the u14 race, it was a double helping for Boyne with Anna Faulkner taking gold and Lily Cummins the silver and Cliodhna Nolan ran a super 800m to take silver in the u16 race.
Not to be outdone by the girls, the Boyne A.C. boys also had a very profitable day, with Eddison Ekhator getting things off to a great start with a win in his u8 60m and a silver medal finish in his 200m race, while Calum Byrne also had a great day, with a win in his 60m and a 3rd place finish in his 200m race. The u10 boys saw Oliver Carolan take gold in the 80m sprint, and turbo javelin, a silver in the 200m and a bronze in the u11 long jump, while Alex Robertson took a well deserved bronze in the 200m race. Shea O’Donnell contested the u11 events, with a win in his 600m race and a bronze in the sprint, while clubmate Sean Cummins took silver in both his long jump and 600m race. Killian Ekhator won the u12 sprint with ease, and took silver in the u13 long jump, while Paddy Price finished in a fine 2nd place in his 800m race and also took silver in the turbo javelin. Aaron Fennell threw a huge 31.64 to take gold in the turbo, and also took bronze in the long jump. Neil Culhane made light work of his 800m to take home the gold in the u13 race, and also took bronze in his 100m sprint, with Tadgh Everitt Thompson also taking gold in his u19 800m race.
And just to make sure no one was left out on the day, the adults fit for life maile gave for some great entertainment, with the super speedy husband and wife team of Richie & Catherine Culhane, taking finishing third in their respective races, while Barbara Carr made her debut for the club, speeding round the 3 loop course with ease!!
The Connor/ Mallon 4 mile Road race takes place on September 17th and registration is now open on www.myrunresults.com, entry is €15 or a ‘bring a buddy’ rate of €25. There will be an easy run of the route on Friday 8th and all are welcome to take part, starting at DPL at 7pm.
